VERY GOOD RYE BREAD | |
1 qt. hot water 1 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds 1 1/2 tsp. anise seeds 4 tbsp. salt 2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/3 c. shortening 1/3 c. molasses 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 c. rye flour 7 c. white flour Add seeds, sugar, molasses, salt and shortening to water. Bring to boil. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast and rye flour. Then add white. Knead down then let rest about 15 minutes. Knead until squeaky. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and rise again. Make into loaves or rolls. Let rise again. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. |
