OLD TIME OATMEAL CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs, beat before adding
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. mother's oats (quick cooking)

Cream first 4 ingredients. Add dry ingredients to cream mixture along with 1 1/4 cups boiling water. Mix well - mixture will be thin, thickens during baking. Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan (glass 325 degrees - other 350 degrees) for 40 minutes.

TOPPING:

5 tbsp. soft butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. coconut
1/4 c. cream (canned milk can be used)
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix above together and spread on warm cake then put under broiler until golden brown. Approximately 3/4 minutes.
