BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
5 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar (Sucaryl can be used as substitute. 2 tbsp. Sucaryl = 1 c. sugar)
1 heaping tsp. turmeric
2 heaping tbsp. mustard seed
1/2 heaping tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon, if desired
8 onions or more
30 cucumbers (peeled)
2 peppers

Slice cucumbers, onions, and cut peppers into strips. Sprinkle each layer with salt (about 1/2 cup salt for the whole amount). Let stand for at least 3 hours, overnight is better.

Heat sugar and vinegar plus spices until sugar is dissolved. Add onions, peppers, and cucumbers and bring to boil. Fill jars and seal.
