POOR BOY COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening or 1 stick butter
1 c. water
1/3 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. white sugar
1 c. raisins

Use large saucepan for mixing. Grease a jelly roll pan, 16x11 inches, or cookie sheet. Put all of above in saucepan and cook for 8 minutes until raisins are soft. Set aside pan and cool to lukewarm, then add to pan, sifted together: 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 c. chopped nuts, if desired

Mix all well; spread in greased pan. Bake 18-20 minutes at 350 degrees until top is lightly browned. Glaze while warm.

GLAZE:

1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. melted butter
Lemon juice (enough to make thin glaze)

Drizzle over top of cookies and spread quickly. Cut into bars.
