ANIMAL CRACKERS | |
tbsp. butter 2/3 c. super fine sugar 1 egg 1 7/8 c. flour A few raisins A few glazed cherries Egg yolk paint (see step 7 & 8) YOU NEED: Mixing bowl Wooden spoon Sm. bowl Tablespoon Sifter Metal mixing spoon Rolling pin Pastry board Animal shaped cookie cutters Thin paint bush baking sheet Wire rack 1. Put the butter and sugar in the mixing bowl and cream them together with the wooden spoon. 2. Break egg into the small bowl and beat until the yolk and white are mixed. 3. Add the egg to the butter-sugar mixture and beat thoroughly with the wooden spoon. 4. Sift the flour into the bowl and fold in lightly with a metal mixing spoon until it is well mixed. 5. Flour the pastry board lightly. Roll out the dough with the rolling pin until it is a little less than 1/4 of an inch thick. 6. Cut out animal shapes with the cutters. 7. Turn on the oven and set at 375 degrees. Make egg yolk paint by mixing 1 egg yolk and 1/4 teaspoon water. 8. Put some of the mixture into each of several small cups, then add a different food coloring to each cup. 9. With a thin paint brush, paint the crackers in bright colors. Use raisins and cherries to make eyes, nose, and mouth. 10. Grease the baking sheet and place the crackers on it. Bake 10 minutes or until done. Cool on baking sheet for 1 few minutes, then transfer to wire rack. |
