PAT'S COFFEE BREAD | |
1/4 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 4 cardamom seeds 1 c. scalded milk 2 c. flour, sifted 1 pkg. yeast 1/4 c. warm water 1 tsp. sugar 1 egg 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c. flour Remove black seeds from cardamom pods and crush, discarding outer pod. Mix butter, 1/2 cup sugar, salt, milk, flour, and cardamom seeds. Beat well. Add 1 package yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar. Mix. Add egg. Mix. Add 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 additional cups flour. Cover and let rise until almost double. Knead and roll out in 3 (4x8 inch) rectangles. Spread with a small amount of butter and sugar and cinnamon. Roll up lengthwise. Place on greased cookie sheet. Make slices into top of each roll and turn every other cut over on its side to make a "braid." Let rise again. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Glaze with confectioners' sugar icing. |
