SOURDOUGH DOUGHNUTS 
1 egg
Sugar
1/2 c. prepared sourdough starter
1/4 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. vegetable oil
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Fat or oil for deep-frying

Beat egg and 1/2 cup sugar together. Add starter, buttermilk, oil, 2 cups flour and remaining ingredients; except fat. Mix well and knead on board until smooth, using remaining flour to dust on board. Roll to a little less than 1/2 inch thickness and cut with floured 2 3/4 inch doughnuts cutter.

Put on greased cookie sheet and let rise in warm place about 30 minutes. Then fry in deep fat (375 degrees on a frying thermometer) until golden brown and done. Drain on absorbent paper and roll in sugar. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.
