OLD-FASHIONED STRAWBERRY JAM
1 qt. sweet strawberries
2 c. sugar, divided
1 tbsp. cornstarch
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of cloves
Dash of mace

Wash berries, remove stems and dry berries on paper towel. Stir berries and 1 3/4 cup sugar together in large saucepan and cook slowly over medium heat for 10 minutes or until juice has thickened slightly. Do not stir while cooking.

Combine cornstarch with remaining 1/4 cup sugar and spices and blend into small amount of hot strawberry syrup. When mixed, stir into berry mixture in pan and cook, stirring constantly, 3 more minutes. Jam will not be as thick as commercial jams, but much more delicious.

Serve with slice of your favorite French bread.
