DILL PICKLES 
Cut tops and bottoms off cucumbers. Wash. Put lots of dill and 3 or 4 small pieces of garlic in the bottom of sterilized quart jars. Fill with the washed cucumbers.

Mix together a solution of:

3 qt. hot water
1/2 c. rock salt
1/2 tsp. alum

Bring to a boil. Add 2 cups vinegar and bring back to a boil. Pour hot liquid over the prepared jars of cucumbers. Have the jar lids hot. Place over the jars and seal. Let set for 8 weeks before using.
