1 1/2 lb. pork 1 1/2 lb. beef or 3 lb. chow mein meat 2 cans bean sprouts 2 lg. onions 2 lg. stalks of celery 1 lg. can mushrooms or more if you desire 1 can water chestnuts chopped fine (may be omitted) Cut and brown the meat well. Season the meat with salt, celery salt, onion salt and garlic salt to taste. Brown in a large pan or deep kettle. Add all the vegetables and liquids from cans and add water to cover. Add soy sauce to taste and 3 or 4 dashes of Worcestershire sauce, or 1 scant tablespoon of Kitchen Bouquet. Let cook slowly for 3 hours or until cooked down. Thicken with corn starch and water mixture until it reaches the thickness you want. This freezes well. |
