HAMBURGER-RICE SOUP 
1 1/2 lbs. hamburger
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. cubed raw potatoes
1 c. diced carrots
1/2 c. diced celery
1/4 c. rice
1 (28 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. basil
2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 qts. water

Saute hamburger and onion until brown; drain. Add other ingredients. Reduce heat and simmer at least 1 hour.

Note: This is good with cheese bread.
