SWEDISH HEIRLOOM COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sifted powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 c. ground almonds
additional powdered sugar

Beat shortening and butter at medium speed of an electric mixer until fluffy. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt. Mix well. Stir in flour. Add water, vanilla and almonds, stirring well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten.

Bake at 325°F for 12 to 15 minutes or until firm and lightly browned. Dredge warm cookies in additional powdered sugar.

Yield: 4 dozen.
