DOUBLE BOILER BREAD PUDDING 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. hot water
2 c. fine, dry bread crumbs
1 c. ground dates, raisins or nuts, chopped

Cream sugar and butter. Add well beaten eggs; mix. Add and mix soda and water. Add and mix bread crumbs and dates. Grease top pan of double boiler. Pour into pan. Steam in double boiler for 1 1/2 hours. (Check on water in bottom of pan.) Serve warm with cream or Cool Whip.
