MRS. SMITH'S COOKIES (OLD-TIME) 
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
1/2 c. shortening
2 lg. tsp. baking powder sifted in flour
1 c. raisins, dredged in flour
1 lg. tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. salt

Cinnamon, ginger to taste. Use enough flour to make a dough stiff enough to be spread out on cookie sheet with a spatula. Bake until toothpick inserted can be removed dry.
