DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. finely grated sweet chocolate
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs

Start oven at moderate (350 degrees). Grease two round 8 inch cake pans; dust lightly with flour. Put dry ingredients together in a bowl. Add shortening, milk and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes, scraping bowl constantly. Add eggs and beat for 2 more minutes. Pour into pans. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Let cool in pans a few minutes, then turn out in cake rack. Frost with icing.
