GRANDMA'S APPLE BROWN BETTY 
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
3 c. peeled, sliced apples
1/4 c. water
1 tbsp. lemon juice
3 tbsp. butter

Mix sugar and spices. Place 1/2 cup of bread crumbs on greased casserole dish. Top with half of apples. Sprinkle with 1/2 of sugar mixture. Repeat layer of 1/2 bread crumbs, apples and sugar. Pour water and lemon juice over all. Top with remaining crumbs, dot with butter. Cover and bake at 350 degrees one hour. Remove cover and bake until brown.
