CHOCOLATE MACAROONS 
2 egg whites
1/2 c. sugar
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate bits, melted
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. shredded coconut

Beat egg whites until foamy. Add salt. Sift sugar in gradually; beat well after each addition, until mixture stands in peaks. Fold in vanilla, cooled melted chocolate, and coconut. Drop from teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet covered with brown wrapping paper. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool before removing cookies from paper. Makes about 2 dozen.
