DATE PUDDING 
1 pkg. dates, cut
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 rounded tbsp. butter, melted
1 egg
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Pour water over dates and soda; let stand while mixing batter. Add remaining ingredients to date mixture. Batter will be thin. Bake in 9 x 9 inch pan in 375 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or old fashioned vanilla sauce.
