DUMPLINGS 
2 qt. broth
2 c. plain flour
1 heaping tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. salt
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste

Set broth to boil. When moderately hot, dip out 1 cup of broth to make dumplings. Sift flour with 1 teaspoon salt into large bowl, work in shortening. Add 1 cup of broth to make a stiff dough. Turn dough onto floured board or cloth and roll to paper thinness. Cut into narrow strips and drop slowly in 2- inch lengths into boiling broth.

When dumplings are all in, pot should be soupy. Turn heat to low, cover and cook 10 minutes. Do not remove cover or stir during this time. Salt and pepper to taste.
