9 c. flour 2 tbsp. salt 3 eggs 2 yeast cakes 1 c. sugar 2 c. milk (lukewarm) 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted Using large bowl, combine sugar and salt. Add lukewarm milk and melted butter; mix well. Add 3 eggs. Add 2 cups flour. Mix well again. Add yeast cakes, melted in a little warm water. Beat well until smooth. Add rest of flour, 2 cups at a time, mixing well. Knead dough until smooth. Let dough raise for 6 hours in covered bowl. After raising, cut dough in half. Then cut each half into 3 pieces. Cut each of 6 pieces into 3 pieces and braid. Using 2 cookie sheets, put 3 loaves on each. Grease pans with Crisco. Cover and let rise for 1 hour. Brush each loaf with egg before cooking in oven set at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. After baking, brush with stick of butter and sprinkle with sugar. |
