BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
5 med. cucumbers
3 med. onions
1/4 c. salt
1 c. vinegar
1/2 tsp. celery seed
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp.turmeric

Wash cucumbers, cut into thin slices. Peel and slice onion. Combine cucumbers and onions. Add salt. Let stand 2 hours, drain.

Heat vinegar, water, celery seed, mustard seed, sugar, ginger, and turmeric to boiling. Double these spices, vinegar, and water for 4 pints.

Add cucumbers and onions. Boil slowly until tender approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Cook until transparent but not soft and mushy. Pack while hot in freshly sterilized jars.
