CARAMEL CAKE 
2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
2 egg yolks
2 whole eggs
1 cup buttermilk
3/4 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine the butter, sugar, egg yolk, eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, flour and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into three greased layer pans.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Caramel Icing:

4 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp. light whipping cream
2 sticks butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder

Mix the brown sugar, whipping cream and butter and bring to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 2 minutes. Add vanilla and baking powder. Beat with hand mixer until icing can be spread.
