I grew up with this frosting and it is my ALL TIME FAVORITE! For a change instead of vanilla try almond or coconut. Or add 1/3 cup. melted dark chocolate for YUMMY CHOCOLATE FROSTING! And last but not least beat in 4 oz. softened cream cheese for a REAL TREAT! This is a great, delicious, basic recipient so try different additions and make it your own. ENJOY!!!

My mother made this recipe years ago. She just passed it on to me. I made it on a yellow cake. It is so good! Not sickly sweet like regular frosting. It was not quite enough for my cake, next time I will double the batch.

During the football season, the University of Oklahoma served Red Velvet Cake with this traditional icing. It took me years after I graduated to find this recipe!
