MOTHER'S OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. rolled oats
1 c. shortening (part butter)
1/3 c. milk or sour milk
1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
Jelly or jam

Mix flour, soda, salt and rolled oats. Cut in shortening until mixture is well blended. Stir in milk and sugar. Mix with hands now. Chill 1 hour. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut in desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until lightly browned. When cooled, put together in pairs with jelly or jam or frosting between. Bake at 375 degrees.
