GRANDMOTHER'S DONUTS
2 eggs, extra lg.
Scant c. sugar
2 tbsp. melted butter (oleo)
1 c. milk
3-4 c. flour
4 level tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

In electric mixer, beat 2 eggs, add sugar, beat until smooth. Add while mixing, melted butter, and milk. Add 3 cups flour, baking powder, nutmeg, ginger, salt, and vanilla. Mix well. Then slowly add 4th cup of flour, more or less, until dough is soft but not sticky.

Roll out onto floured board, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into donuts. Cook in lard on medium high heat, until golden brown on both sides and fork comes out clean. This batch should make 2 dozen donuts or so.

(Dick saved me a lot of grief when he told me that the baking powder must be "LEVEL teaspoon"). Thanks G.D.
