GERMAN BROWN BREAD 
4 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups milk
1 tbsp. melted shortening
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 5 tbsp. hot water

Mix whole wheat flour, salt and sugar. Stir in milk. Add shortening, molasses and baking soda mixture. Place in 1 large or 2 small greased and floured bread pans. Cover with similar pans.

Bake at 350°F for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours.
