SNICKERDOODLES 
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 stick butter
2 lg. eggs

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon together; set aside. Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

In a large bowl, beat sugar, butter, shortening and eggs until well blended and smooth. Stir in flour mixture. Refrigerate dough if necessary until firm enough to shape. Shape level tablespoonfuls into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll in sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes until tops are crinkled and lightly browned. Remove to rack to cool. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
