FANTASTIC SPLIT PEA SOUP 
1 pkg. yellow split peas
10 c. water
3 tomatoes, average
Generous amounts of cut up: carrots, onions, scallions, mushrooms, kale, celery
3 garlic cloves
1 1/2 tbsp. tamari
1 tsp. cumin, garlic powder
1 tbsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. black pepper

Bring the water to a boil with the salt. Add split peas and vegetables as they are cut up, starting with hardest vegetables first. Add spices. (Keep at a simmer for about 1 1/2 hours). Puree the tomatoes and add them last toward the end; add about 1 1/2 cups barley about 45 minutes before finish.
