OLD FASHIONED ICICLE PICKLES 
4 lg. cucumbers 8 inches long (2 1/2 lbs.)
Ice water
1 qt. white vinegar
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
6 sm. onions (peeled)
1 tbsp. mixed pickling spice

Wash cucumbers, do not pare, cut lengthwise into 6-8 strips, depending on size of cucumbers. Lay in shallow dish, cover with ice water. Set for 3 hours.

Get 2 (1 quart) jars ready.

Bring to a boil vinegar, sugar and salt. Drain cucumbers. Put in jars with onions and spice. Add your vinegar mixture and seal.
