MIXED BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. mixed beans
1 ham bone
2 qts. water
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 lg. clove garlic, chopped or minced
1 lg. can tomatoes
1 dried red pepper, broken up

Soak beans overnight and wash thoroughly. Cook bone and strip off any meat and replace the meat in the broth. Add other ingredients to broth and simmer all day in the slow cooker. Serve some that evening, but a second day of cooking is recommended. Before adding salt, taste as hambone will contribute some salt.
