OLD-FASHIONED CHOCOLATE CREAM

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. flour
4 tbsp. cocoa
3 c. milk
4 egg yolks, beaten
1 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Pie shells, baked

Combine sugar, salt, cornstarch, flour and cocoa; gradually add milk and stir well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens; boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir a little of mixture into egg yolks. Blend remaining egg yolks into hot mixture. Boil 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Pour into pie shells. Add meringue; bake until brown. Yield: 2 (8 inch) pies.
