SUGAR LEMON SWEET BREAD | |
1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water 1/2 tsp. sugar 1/2 c. milk, scalded 2/3 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 c. butter, melted 3 eggs 1 tsp. grated lemon rind 4 c. all-purpose flour 1 egg white 1 tbsp. sugar Sprinkle yeast into warm water; add sugar. Let stand until dissolved. Pour milk into large bowl; add sugar, salt and butter. Add eggs one at a time. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Mix in yeast mixture and lemon rind. Gradually mix in 2 cups flour. Beat 5 minutes. Add remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead, on a floured board, until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes). Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover; let rise until doubled. Knead lightly on a floured board. Place dough in greased loaf pan. Cover; let rise until doubled. Brush loaves with beaten egg white. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until browned and pulling away from pan. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then turn out on a rack. |
