PAPER BAG APPLE PIE | |
6 to 7 c. peeled, sliced apples 1 c. sugar unbaked 9-inch pie shell 1/2 c. butter 1 1/2 c. flour plus 2 tbsp. 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. lemon juice Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons flour. Add nutmeg and toss well into mix. Turn into pie shell and sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine remaining 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour. Rub in the butter and sprinkle the topping evenly over apples. Place pie in large heavy paper bag. Fold over twice and close with paper clips. Place bag on cookie sheet. Bake at 425°F for 1 hour. Remove pie. Let cool. This is a delectable pie. Apples will be tender and the top golden, and somehow the paper bag insures a perfect bake every time. |
