Preparation time: 10 to 15 minutes. Chilling time: 2 hours. Baking time: 10 minutes.

Makes about 50 cookies.

1/2 c. unsalted butter
4 (1 oz.) sqs. unsweetened chocolate
2 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter in bowl. Melt chocolate in double boiler. Blend into butter with 2 cups sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together, then add to chocolate mixture. Chill dough 2 hours.

Form dough into balls and roll in remaining sugar. Place two inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Don't overbake. Cookies should be chewy.
