THE PRINCESS CAKE 
1 c. butter
3 c. sugar
1 c. ice water or sweet milk
10 egg whites, stiffly beaten
5 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. lemon extract

Cream butter and sugar. Add the water or milk a TABLESPOON at a time until all is used. Continue to cream all the time. (Sift flour 5-6 times.) Add 4 cups of the flour and then the stiffly beaten egg whites. Last, add 2 teaspoon baking powder and 1 cup flour that has been sifted together several times, and then lemon extract. Bake.

ICING:

3 c. sugar
2 c. water
3 egg whites
1 pkg. marshmallows

Cook syrup to soft ball stage or "spin-a-thread" stage. Whip egg whites very stiff. To the eggs, add 1 package marshmallows. Slowly add the syrup to the egg and marshmallow mixture, beating then. Add 2 tablespoons boiling water. Beat until right spreading consistency.
