YEAST DONUTS OR BREAD 
2 pkgs. dry yeast (or equivalent)
3 tbsp. water
1 pint milk
4 tbsp. shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
all-purpose flour

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Scald milk, add shortening and let cool. Add sugar, salt and egg. Mix well then add flour to right texture. Put in large greased pan, cover with towel and let rise to double in size.

Knead on floured board and either make donuts or put in muffin tins and let rise again. Then fry donuts or bake bread approximately 450°F until done.

GLAZE (DONUTS):

1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 to 2 tbsp. warm water
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients for glaze until smooth and dip warm or hot donuts.
