MORAVIAN SUGAR CAKE | |
3/4 c. butter flavored Crisco 1 c. white sugar 2 eggs 1 c. mashed potatoes 1 c. potato water 2 tsp. salt 1 yeast pkg. or cake, softened in 1/4 c. warm water Enough flour to make a soft dough, about 6-8 c. Cream Crisco and sugar, beat in eggs. Add mashed potatoes, potato water and salt. Add yeast that has been dissolved in warm water. Add flour to make a soft dough. Let rise 2-3 hours. Pat out in greased pans and let rise again. (Pat out to about 1/2 inch thick.) Let rise again. Punch holes all over top and pour melted butter to cover completely. Cover with a layer of brown sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon. Let sit for about 5 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until brown. (Make sure pan sides are high enough to keep butter and sugar from running off.) |
