MOTHER'S FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening (lard butter)
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
3 1/2 c. flour (scant)
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

Cook until thick (10 minutes). 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. water 1 tbsp. flour Sm. piece of butter

Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg; beat. Sift flour, soda, and cream of tartar together. Add milk and vanilla. Roll thin; cut cookies. Put in pan and then put 1 teaspoon filling on each. Place another cookie gently on each cookie; press lightly. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.
