“KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS” IS IN:

KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 (10 oz.) pkg. (about 40) regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Makes 24 squares.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:

Microwave butter with marshmallows on high setting for 2 minutes in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Stir together when melted. Microwave again on high for 1 additional minute. Stir in cereal, mixing until well coated. Press into pan as above.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats

Great holiday idea. Substitute corn flakes for krispies (not frosted flakes... they're too sweet) and a few drops of green food colouring. On cookie sheets lined with wax paper, form little Christmas wreaths and for holly, add little cinnamon candies. My mom made them when I was a kid and they were a hit!

I follow the recipe using about 5 cups cereal but put in pie pan and freeze. When ready to serve take out of freezer, defrost slightly and top with strawberries, blueberries, chocolate or your favorie topping.

To those whose treats came out stale: I had this problem when I first started making the treats and learned that if the marshmallow/ butter is too hot (i.e. right off the stove or too hot out of the microwave), it will make the krispie treats stale tasting. I allow the mix to cool a bit before adding the cereal and the problem has been solved.

Just made rice krispie treats for the first time. Added dried cherries, white chocolate and drizzled semi sweet chocolate on top. Yum! Thank you for the tips about spreading them--that was hard work!

Just made these because I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. I read every single comment and tried to combine to make them supremely awesome - salt, vanilla, all that jazz.

But I'm confused - I bought a 9 x 13 inch pan to make them, as the recipe says, and couldn't even fill the bottom of the pan with my mixture. In the end, I squished the mixture up to just fill up half of the pan. I used 5 cups of krispies as per Kim's suggestion. What gives?

My mom and my boyfriend absolutely love my rice krispies now! Thanks everyone, for the tips. The teaspoon and Vanilla and that 5 cups instead of 6 were perfect!

Making these isn't rocket science, but there are a few things that can make it easier. First, if you want them to be of the right consistency and flavor, you have to use real butter. Second, you have to move fast. I melt the butter over low heat on the stove, then add the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted. After adding the cereal, QUICKLY put it into the greased pan. Then use wax paper to press it flat in the pan with your hands.

Don't use margarine - use real butter and you can also add Butterscotch chips and peanut butter to the rice krispies and no marshmallows. Yum nice and sweet

To those who's treats fall apart, make sure they are completely cool in the pan before you try to cut them or remove them. Adding vanilla now. Thanks!

I saw in a cute idea in a parenting magazine. The lady shapes rice krispie treats in the form of a giant numeral for her child's age. I'm going to try this....any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you make this recipe but substitute Rice Krispies cereal for Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Pebbles it will taste just as good all my sybling loved them I made it with my ten year old sister and it was quick and easy.

 Katie (New Jersey) says:
Best way to press the mix into the pan -- run cold water over your hands, then press it in. The cold water stops marshmallows from sticking, and doesn't hurt the recipe at all!

My wife, and I agree, says it should have more marshmallows. Simple to make but isn't a double boiler best?

 Marcie (North Carolina) says:
Very good!! Try using fruity pebbles instead, great for Christmas treats (because of colors) and very tasty!! My kids love them.
