“KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS” IS IN:

KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 (10 oz.) pkg. (about 40) regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Makes 24 squares.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:

Microwave butter with marshmallows on high setting for 2 minutes in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Stir together when melted. Microwave again on high for 1 additional minute. Stir in cereal, mixing until well coated. Press into pan as above.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats

One of the issues of people having "stale tasting" rice krispie treats is the heat level. Melting the marshmallows with heat that is too high for too long changes the nature of the sugars in the marshmallows and makes them way, way crunchier, stale tasting, and robs them of that elasticity that a good rice krispie treat has. Just make sure that you melt the marshmallows low and slow and you'll be fine .

That's a great recipe! I am preparing a wall-e cake for my daughter's 3nd birthday and I was wondering if I can shape the rice krispies with my hands or is it necessary to put it in a pan? I want to make the head and the hands with the rice krispies treats.

One of the best rice crispy recipes I have made adds candy corn and mini choc chips. I mix the candy corns in the cereal but wait til the mixture cools down and then press the mini chips in. Otherwise if the mix is too hot the chips will melt. This is great for the fall. I have also used the pastel candy corns you get in the spring for a fun Easter treat. Everyone that has tried it has loved the combo

I also do 4 cups marsh, 1/4 cup butter, and 5 cups rice k. While the marsh are melting, I always add a heaping scoop of peanutbutter, and 1 packet of hot cocoa mix, and walla! I have chocolate pb rice krispy treats! Big hit every year when I put them in the xmas treat boxes I make for various family's. I read the tip on vanilla, and I"m totally gonna try that too! Wonderful comments!

I am a perfectionist and I find spreading the mixture with cold wet hands is the best way to perfect levels and it is the fastest. I also cover my treats with powdered sugar. Simply the best!

My mom added raisins to this. My brother and I preferred those to the ones with chocolate chips. They add just enough sweetness without being over the top.

My 7 year old daughter needs to make a snowman out of ANYTHING! She wants to use rice krispie treats. Can these be made into balls? A friend of mine tried but said they sort of melted out of shape... but I'm going to give it a try. Anyone have any hints?

Here's a recipe that was on the rice krispie package in the 1960's which I believe was called "scotcharoos".

Melt 1/2 stick of butter and add 1/4 cup of peanut butter.
Melt in one 10 0z package of marshmallows.
Remove from heat and stir in 6 cups of rice krispies.

Pat into 9 x 13 pan.

Melt 1/2 cup of butterscotch chips and 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chips for topping.

Love all of the suggestions!
I made a large batch of these the other day & needed them to be thin! I spread them out on the countertop & pushed them flat with my hands. I use butter flavored spray oil on the countertop & on my hands & it worked really well!!

The way I make mine is 1 stick of butter, a whole bag, 10.5 oz, mini marshmallows, and 6 cups of Rice Krispies. For those who say it falls apart, you must let them sit and form. Don't eat ASAP!

I wanted to add another suggestion :) I make mine with 5 cups of rice Krispies, and since today is valentines day, i'm going to get my heart cookie cutter out, make them into hearts, and dip one half of the Krispie into some chocolate coating, and i'm going to add sprinkles. Ive done it before, and they come out awesome! I have 3 little ones, so before they get too hard I stick a Popsicle stick in it so they don't make too much of a mess :) hope someone else enjoys it as much as us!
