LILLIAN'S DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening, part butter
2 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
3 c. quick oats

Boil dates, sugar, and water together. Stir until thick and let cool. Combine ingredients to form dough. Roll out thin. Put filling between 2 cut cookies. Press edges. Bake 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Can make thicker cookie, depress center and add filling.
