SURPRISE MERINGUES 
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts
12 oz. chocolate chips

Beat egg whites, salt, cream of tartar and vanilla until soft peaks form. Add sugar gradually, beating until very stiff. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Cover cookie sheet with a piece of paper cut from a brown paper bag. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoons. Bake at 300 degrees for 25 minutes.
