DATE LOAF 
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. dates
1 c. boiling water
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. oil or butter
1 egg
1/2 c. nuts; optional
1 1/2 c. flour

Sprinkle soda over cut dates and pour hot water over both. Stir in sugar and fat and salt. Beat egg in cup with fork and add to mixture. Add flour and nuts last.

Put in well greased pan and bake in slow oven 300 degrees for 1 hour.
