HOT CROSS BUNS 
1 c. scalded milk
1/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 yeast cake dissolved in 1/2 c. lukewarm water
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3 c. flour
1 egg
1/4 c. raisins, quartered
1/4 c. currants (optional)

Add butter, sugar, and salt to scalded milk. When lukewarm, add yeast cake, cinnamon, flour, and well beaten egg. When thoroughly mixed, add raisins and optional currants. Cover and let stand overnight. In morning, shape dough into large biscuits. Place in a pan 1 inch apart. Let rise. Brush over with beaten egg and bake 20 minutes in 375 degree oven. Cool and with white frosting make a cross on top of each bun.
