MOTHER'S CORNBREAD 
1 stick butter
1 c. plain cornmeal
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put butter in baking dish or iron skillet and put in oven to melt. Mix dry ingredients, add buttermilk and eggs. Stir until mixed. Pour melted butter over mixture. Mix well. Pour into hot pan. Bake approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Makes 8x12 inch pan, or for thicker cornbread use 8x8 inch pan.
