COLORFUL DATE SALAD 
1/2 c. pitted fresh California dates
2 tart red apples
2 tbsp. lemon juice
3/4 c. chopped celery, including a few leaves
1/4 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Romaine lettuce
1/4 c. Miracle Whip
1 tbsp. sugar
Salt

Cut dates crosswise into pieces. Halve, core and dice apples into a bowl; sprinkle with lemon juice. Add dates, celery and nuts; toss lightly. Spoon mixture onto Romaine lined salad plates. Mix salad dressing (Miracle Whip), sugar and salt to taste; pass in separate bowl. Or, if you wish, toss dressing with fruit-nut mixture before spoon onto plates. 4 to 6 servings.
