BUTTER BALL COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add beaten egg and vanilla; mix well. Add flour which has been sifted with baking powder and salt. Shape in 2 long rolls. Cut off pieces the size of a marble. Dip in granulated sugar; roll in palm of hand until round. Dip in sugar again and place on ungreased cookie sheet 2-inches apart.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400°F.
