SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES | |
2 c. all-purpose flour 2 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 c. butter, softened 1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. finely chopped and peeled apples 1-2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. sour cream 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar and butter on low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of crumb mixture into ungreased 9x13 inch dish. To remaining crumb mixture, add baking soda, cinnamon, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg. Blend well. Stir in apples. Spoon apple mixture evenly over crumb mixture in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into squares. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. |
