SUGAR COOKIES 
COOKIE DOUGH:

2 sticks butter
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Chill dough 2 hours before rolling out to 1/2 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut out with cutters. Bake at 325 degrees about 10 minutes. Watch closely until golden.

FROSTING:

3/4 c. granulated sugar
3 tbsp. water
3 lg. marshmallows
1 egg white
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Colored sugar

Boil sugar and water for 3 minutes. Add marshmallows. Remove from heat and stir until melted. To unbeaten egg white add 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar. Add sugar mixture and beat for 5 minutes. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Frost cookies and sprinkle with colored sugar.
