DATE AND NUT BARS 
1/2 lb. melted butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. oats
1 c. ground nuts

FILLING:

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. water
1 lb. cut up dates

Cook filling until consistency of jam, stir constantly and cool. Spread 1/2 of mixture then in bottom of 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 or 13 x 9 pan. Add filling. Sprinkle remaining half on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
